<p>FTP allows users to upload (upload) and download files from a remote server for data storage or exchange purposes. It is commonly used by website administrators to upload files to the web server, by users to download files from remote servers, and by automated systems to transfer files on a scheduled basis.</p>

<p>FTP operates in two main modes: file transfer mode and directory access mode. In file transfer mode, files are transferred between the client and the server. In directory access mode, the client is allowed to list the files and directories available on the server.</p>
